General

Is this a subscription or a one-time purchase?

Writage is a one-time purchase with no recurring fees. Bug fixes and updates are free for 12 months after purchase.

How do I update Writage?

Download the latest installer from writage.com/download/ and run it over the existing installation. Your license key carries over automatically.

Does Writage work offline?

Yes, Writage runs entirely on your computer. You only need an internet connection to activate your license for the first time.

Does Writage work with Google Docs?

No, Writage is a plugin for Microsoft Word and requires Word to be installed.

Installation

Is there a version available for macOS?

Yes, Writage is available for both Windows and macOS. Download the macOS PKG installer from the Download section and follow the macOS installation instructions.

Is there a desktop app?

Yes. The Writage installer includes a desktop app for previewing and converting Markdown and DOCX files without opening Word. See the Desktop App page for details.

Does Writage support Office 365?

Yes, Writage supports Office 365, as well as 2013/2016/2019/2021/2024.

I can’t install Writage, what’s wrong?

Please make sure that you have Administrator rights on your computer.

Features

Does Writage support math equations?

Yes. Writage converts LaTeX math syntax ( $...$ and $$...$$) to Word’s native Equation Editor, and converts Word equations back to LaTeX when saving as Markdown. See Math & Equations.

Does Writage support citations?

Yes. Writage supports Pandoc-style citations ([@key]) with BibTeX and CSL JSON bibliography files. Nine citation styles are available, including APA, IEEE, and MLA. See Citations.

Can I convert a whole folder of Markdown files at once?

Yes. Use the Import Folder button on the Writage ribbon to combine a folder of Markdown files into a single DOCX document. See Import Folder.

Licensing

What’s the difference between a personal and commercial license?

Personal license is intended for individual use. Therefore only one license per user is available and the license will be issued on your own name.

Commercial license is designated for companies. The license will be issued on your company name, not on the name of an individual user. There is an option to purchase as many licenses as your company needs.

Can I use Writage on more than one computer?

Yes, you can use your license on multiple computers (at home, at University, school, etc) as long as you have a license valid for the person who uses Writage and not someone else.

Can I buy a license for my team?

If you are purchasing a license for more than one person, you need to choose the Commercial license at check-out.

Pricing

How do you process orders?

All our orders are processed by FastSpring. FastSpring is a well-known company that has been offering a full service e-commerce platform for companies that sell software since 2005.

How can I change the number of licenses?

If you are going to buy some licenses for commercial use, you can enter the quantity you need on the checkout page. If you are going to buy a license for your personal use, there will be only one license available.

I bought a license, how to activate it?

Open the Writage tab in Microsoft Word, click the License button, and paste your license key into the dialog box. See Activating your license for full instructions.
