Getting Started
After installing Writage, open Microsoft Word. You will see a new Writage tab in the ribbon.

That tab is everything you need. The basic workflow is: write in Word, click Save As Markdown. That’s it.
Note
If you cannot see the Writage tab, the Word window may be too narrow. Try maximising the window. If the tab is still missing, see Troubleshooting.
Open the Welcome document
Before anything else, click the Welcome button on the Writage ribbon. A sample Markdown file will open in Word, showing the formatting Writage supports — headings, lists, code blocks, tables, and more.
You can edit the Welcome document and use it as a playground.
Your first Markdown file
- Open a new document in Word.
- Write your content using normal Word formatting — headings, bold, italic, lists.
- Click Save As Markdown on the Writage ribbon and choose a location.
Word saves the file as .md. Open it in any text editor to see the Markdown source.
What to explore next
- Open & Save Files — open existing Markdown files, and convert between DOCX and Markdown
- Copy & Paste — paste Markdown from any source directly into Word
- Using with AI Assistants — bring content from ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini into Word
